Is R22 more efficient than R410a?

Companies are slowly trying to eliminate HCFC refrigerants like R22 and replace them with HFC types. R410a is one of the better HFC-type refrigerants. It has been developed to have better thermodynamic properties, work at higher pressures and be able to cool greater volumes.

R22 is still in wide use because R22 degrades less quickly than R410a as temperatures increase.

While R22 on some levels has been shown to be more efficient than R410a, it is being phased out in developed countries. If you are considering acquiring a new system, it is definitely more practical to consider one that uses R410a.
